Why Direct Pricing Is Lower

It's not because direct booking is "the host's secret rate." It's that the OTAs (online travel agencies) take a real cut, and direct cuts that out:

When you book direct, the host can drop their published rate 10% and still earn more than they would on Airbnb. You save, they earn more, the only loser is the platform.

How to Verify a Direct Booking Site Is Legitimate

Direct booking is great until you wire money to a fake site and lose it. Real fraud happens — usually clones of legitimate hosts' branding. Here's a step-by-step verification checklist:

1. 1Check the domain age. Use whois.com or domaintools.com — legitimate businesses register years in advance. A 30-day-old domain claiming "boutique villas since 2018" is a red flag.
2. 2Cross-reference with Airbnb / VRBO listings. A real direct site should also have its properties on at least one OTA. If they don't, ask why.
3. 3Find them on social media. Real businesses have Instagram, Facebook, and a posting history that goes back at least a year. Fake sites either have no social or an empty bot account.
4. 4Look for a real phone number and address. Click "Contact." Is there a physical address, a real phone number, and a person's name? Or just a generic form?
5. 5Verify payment method. Legitimate direct sites use Stripe, Square, or another major processor — never wire transfer or crypto. Stripe specifically gives you chargeback rights.
6. 6Ask for a phone or video call. A real owner-operator will get on a call. A scammer will deflect.
7. 7Check for press mentions. Real businesses get mentioned in real publications. Search "[business name] Condé Nast" or similar — fake sites have no press history.

Yes. Same listing, same calendar, same standards. We're the host on Airbnb and we're the host direct. The only difference is who takes a cut.

What if something goes wrong — do I have any protection?
Yes. Stripe payments include chargeback rights for fraud or services not delivered. We also have a written rental agreement that you sign before payment, which is enforceable like any contract. Compare that to Airbnb's "host guarantee" which isn't actually a guarantee.

Why don't more hosts offer direct booking discounts?
Most are afraid of Airbnb retaliation (Airbnb will downrank hosts who openly steer bookings off-platform). We have enough off-platform business that this doesn't matter — and we'd rather build direct relationships with guests than feed the platform fee machine.

How do I know I won't lose my Airbnb reviews / status by booking direct?
You don't lose anything. Direct booking is a parallel transaction. Your Airbnb account is unaffected.

Yes. We send a rental agreement covering check-in/out times, guest count, damage policy, cancellation terms, and Mexican civil jurisdiction. Sign before payment.

Can I pay with a credit card?
Yes, via Stripe. Visa, Mastercard, Amex all accepted. Bank transfer / wire is also an option for international guests who prefer it. We never accept crypto or gift cards.
